Ontario's Premier, Doug Ford, wishes to revive the 2013 idea of turning BBTCA into a large jet port. To do so, he wants to take over the City's ownership stake in airport lands so the airport's operating lease can be rewritten to suit his plan.
Concurrent with this news, a long-concealed Toronto Port Authority study on the 2013 Porter Airlines jet expansion proposal has just been uncovered through Freedom of Information requests.
Completed in 2017 to complement the airport's analysis of required Runway End Safety Areas, but never made public, this report has valuable insights on the implications of the Province's 2026 plans.
